Grateful for the supposedly ‘Little Things’!

With the onset of the current pandemic situation, I had come across many posts which spoke about being grateful.

This whole act of practising gratitude is beautiful. To find even the slightest thing to be grateful, make hard times a bit bearable.

It makes me wonder how did this concept of gratitude come into existence. Is it because we, as humans, have always taken things for granted? Or is it because we fail to look at the bright side when a difficult situation arises?

At times, I believe it is because we do not pay attention to the little things. We are so focussed on making a living or building a life, that we hardly notice the smallest things that matter. I don’t think that they can be referred to as ‘little things’ because they are the most meaningful aspects of our lives.

It could be the hug you give your loved one before going to your workplace; the endless talks during lunch time with your colleague or a classmate; and the watchman at your workplace wishing you ‘good morning' every single day.

The way you could freely use your sensory organs without giving much thought- the nose to breathe fresh air, the tongue to taste all kinds of delicacies, the smell of the pleasant fragrance of nature around, the touch of the hand of your loved ones, the sight of your family enjoying at least one meal together and the sound of people chattering in the crowded local train.

We experience so much every single day. It is easy to miss them now, when situations have kept some of us at home while some are battling this deadly virus.

These ‘little things' have not completely left our lives. It still exists in the kindness of the strangers who are doing their best to spread accurate information, required by so many of us. It still exists in those friends & well wishers who give us a listening ear in such a dreadful time. It still exists in our families who are standing united in faith, taking necessary precautions & praying for the wellbeing of others.

These ‘little things' keep happening around us. It is only when we take a step back, we realize how significant they have been throughout our life journey.

All in all, as we hope for the world to heal, I wish that we embrace the ‘little things' and be grateful for them to add meaning to our lives.
